You’re probably already privy to numerous tips about how to keep your skin fresh and glowing and you may have also realized that most of them require the kind of time that only a teenager has and some are plain ridiculous. Our tips will keep you fresh and glowing all summer long and not require you to sleep in one position with a stupid mask on your face all night.
1. Mix your drinks
Not literally, unless you are mixing soft drinks; make sure that plain water takes the major share of all that you drink in any given day. How many cups, you ask? Well, here’s an unconventional tip not talked about in polite society: drink to keep your pee crystal clear
while not increasing the frequency to any significant extent. Measure the number of cups the first day you go on this skin health regimen – it could change a little bit (give or take a cup or two) depending upon how much you sweat.
It is not good to err on the side of excess when you are drinking water for health. If you do that, toxins that are supposed to be flushed out through bowel movements get washed and filtered out through the kidneys and you stand the risk of growing kidney stones. Not tomorrow – but some day, not definitely – but why risk it? One more thing: skip the antiperspirants completely – sweat helps in flushing out the bad stuff. If you hydrate yourself properly and maintain standard hygiene, you will not stink. Spray on some floral perfume if you wish.
2. Shake that … body!
Exercising is always a great health option for any season. In summer we generally tend to expose more of our bodies and the display of skin requires that we have good skin. Exercising helps to make your skin taut and, yes, glowing too. Your muscles and tendons receive optimal pump and stretches the skin, and since this happens when you are growing healthier by the day with lots of increased blood flow, you look seriously good! And the good news is, 15 minutes a day, three days a week is enough to keep you and your skin in perfect condition provided you step it up to high intensity circuit or interval routines.
3. Ditch the soap
We are quite serious, really. Your skin needs cleansing and exfoliation. It doesn’t need an alkaline liquid. Even if you are using natural products, they are actually redundant except, maybe, for your nether regions, and there, too, in moderation. Use natural loofah for scrubbing your body while you take your bath. This will cleanse you of dirt and dead skin cells. It does not take significantly longer, either. In case you find this impractical during the weekdays, definitely opt for this method on weekends.
There’s another benefit to not using soap which is almost invariably scented: your natural pheromones don’t get washed away or suppressed. We probably don’t have to explain the possibilities here, right?
4. Speaking of pheromones
Make it a point to enjoy yourself with your partner every day or night if your schedule permits. Having an active sex life is going to put the kind of glow in your life and appearance that no beauty regimen can. We are talking about emotional and physical bonding, here. Not to be judgmental, but if you are waking up with a different partner every morning after very wild nights, we’re not sure this tip would work for you. And the quality of your sleep will probably not be as good as someone who was less full of alcohol when they drifted off to sleep peacefully in their partners loving arms. You do need quality sleep for just about everything, including your skin.
5. Eat the veggies, seriously
Even if you hate the gorgeous greens all year long, try to cultivate a temporary relationship with them during the summer months. We’re not asking you to go vegan (although that also helps) but only to include substantial amount of leafy greens and fruits and fruit juices (freshly made, not packaged) in your regular meals. Try it seriously this summer and you will never want it any different.
6. Sun-screening – the right way
Talk to your doctor for this one. The facts are: you need sun exposure for healthy skin (look it up on Google if you are interested in how your skin creates calcitriol after synthesizing Vitamin D from sunlight). However, too much exposure causes skin aging and even skin cancer. You skin type and age determines how much is too much and what type of sunscreen you should use and if you need topical application of Vitamin D. There’s no need to trust the sunscreen manufacturers on this – just talk to your doctor and you’ll know what is best for you. While you are at it, ask for a good water based moisturizer as well. That’s about all you will need to enjoy your summers in good health and with a vibrant, glowing skin.
